"I was fortunate to live 9 years, during my childhood, in a farm. I learned to enjoy its surroundings and nurtured my love for mother nature. Suddenly, the time to start a new stage in my life surprised me and we moved out to “Buenaventura”, a small city in the Cauca’s Valley.
It was hard to adapt to living in a village of stilt houses called “Muro Yusti”, where the streets were replaced by bridges made with pieces of wood and poles of “chonta”. Still, I was grateful for what life was offering; and despite facing enormous difficulties and social isolation, I soon found myself surrounded by love and enthusiasm. I learned to appreciate everything I had in life and discovered how rewarding serving and loving my neighbors was, only with what the Creator had gifted me.
I was embraced by the Afro culture and learned about its manifestations and expressions. Under this influence, I started loving all the charm that you can discover in this little piece of Africa called “Muro Yusti”. The “Muro Yusti”, where 90% of the population hold African roots and come from all corners of the Colombian Pacific Coast.
Even in this place, where it seems that more comfort is needed, I found real happiness. Now I know that, when humility prevails, selfishness and vanity give room to fraternity and service. There is no pain that cannot be shared or difficulty that cannot be exceeded."
